New sailing route from the Faroe Island to Europe

Eimskip has launched a new weekly sailing route connecting Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands with Rotterdam. The service strengthens the connection between the Faroe Islands and mainland Europe, supporting the growing export of fresh products, particularly seafood, while also providing more regular opportunities for imports from Europe.

“We have been seeing an increase in exports of fresh seafood from the Faroe Islands to Europe, particularly salmon, and we expect this growth to continue,” says Vilhelm Már Þorsteinsson, CEO of Eimskip.

The direct connection between the Faroe Islands and Rotterdam provides shorter transit times and increased transport capacity, supporting the continued growth of Faroese exports. It also offers import companies in the Faroe Islands more efficient and reliable supply chains from mainland Europe.

The new weekly service, known as the Purple Line, has been developed in close cooperation with Faroe Ship, Eimskip’s subsidiary in the Faroe Islands. The route is designed to strengthen connections between communities and support the local business community.

Since the beginning of September, the route has also included a call at Ålesund, Norway, on the return sailing from Rotterdam to the Faroe Islands.

The first sailing of the Purple Line departed from Tórshavn on 4 August 2026.
